This past week has been a good training week. I managed to get in 34.1
miles, that is very good, haven't done that for a very long time. If I
can keep it up and not break down maybe I will start to get faster in
races. Certainly hope so, been slow for a long time now. The ING 1/2
Marathon is in about 2 weeks so we will see if my training has helped.
I would say that I have been slowing down for the last 6 years, of
course I know age has something to do with… Continue

I think I've been a part of just Finish for about a year now. And it seems to me the only thing I've been able to finish was every meal I put in front of my face! I don't know if this time i'll make it to my finish line but I sure as heck am fired up right now to do so. I know why the other times have failed but I'm not sure I can tell the difference between an excuse and a reason, because what's one to one person is the other to another.… Continue

...had there been a real emegency...???
Earlier this week, with an abundance of caution, I laced up my Beasts and reintroduced them to the pavement. It's been five weeks since I hurt myself and found myself in Recoveryland. It is not a fun land. I did three miles that day, around Oakland's Lake Merritt, and another three miles on the treadmill on another day. It was after those little jaunts that I decided I was probably ready to kick things up a bit, especially since I have… Continue

I grew up on Detroit's upper East side. At that time we didn't ask mom & dad for a ride any where, we rode our bikes. Our parents gave us 4hrs for a bike ride before we had to be back on our block, so we would think of the longest most daring destinations possible. We would cruise at crazy speed for the longest periods of time before being worn out, "out of gas". Any time that some one would mention a bike ride to me or around me over the last 25yrs, I would just smile, and not just a smile… Continue

Several years ago a certain well known politician who is married to another well-known politician wrote a book about their philosophy of child-rearing. I never read the book and therefore am not qualified to give a review of it but from what I gathered from other reviews of the book and from comments the author had made, I didn't exactly agree with the point the author was trying to make. Maybe it was because I felt a social agenda was hidden in its pages, though I can't say for… Continue

After months of being unable to actually pull the trigger on signing up for Trieste and Prague marathons in May, and three weeks of injury-caused non-running and recovery, "Mr. Mo" is back on my side as of the just-concluded weekend.

6 years ago, I never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to do this. Looking back, it all seems like a dream (sometimes a nightmare) with muscles more sore than imgainable in the morning from not sleeping well!
I had open heart surgery to repair an Atrial Septal Defect. Very 'simple' heart problem that is caught in time can be repaired with no lasting problems. So I had surgery. That was the beginning of a long recovery. I worked at a wilderness therapy camp. In order to… Continue

I will NOT be doing 12 marathons in 12 months again...at least this year. Last year was mainly about quantity, although it surely had many quality moments. 2010's marathon selections are going to be more about enhancing the total experience of each. They're about the "where" and the "who". There will be three pairs of back-to-back weekend marys in four countries, a new PR target time, and involvement in a cross-training sport I've despised my whole life.

Tomorrow (12/29/09) will be my one-year running anniversary. So I thought I would take a few moments to reflect on and chronicle ‘My Year Running’.
WHY I STARTED RUNNING: I wanted to ‘rev-up’ my weight loss. I didn’t want to make this another ‘New Year’s resolution’. So, I started in December (2008). To keep myself honest, I registered for a couple of races early in the upcoming year – one in January and one in February.
MY RACE HIGHLIGHTS: On this day 12/29/08, I ran 1¼… Continue

Yup, you got that right...another day gone by and we have day seven of no running.
This morning I got up and worked a little more on the reunion contact list. My 25 Year High School Reunion will be here in just 8 short months. And I'm coordinating the entire thing! I've found about 175 people...just 200ish more to go! LOL!!! Okay, not so funny. I really need to get in gear. Need to start collecting money soon, too. Ugh. Someone tell my why I volunteered to do this???
