Restarting!

I haven't blogged before, but feel like I need some motivation and support to keep myself on track.  I ran in the Detroit Marathon in 2009 - I finished, but not strong and know that I can do better.  That's part of the plan for this year.  I completed the Anchor Bay Sprint Triathlon in 2010, reasonably strong but with loads of room for improvement.  That's also part of the plan this year.  I need to shed some pounds and refocus, so tomorrow starts the plan!!

A Magical Christmas Adventure

Last night on the news (something I rarely watch except to get a peek at the weather forecast so I can plan my runs) there was a Weather Alert from the National Weather Service -- ooh this sounds very serious! We had been debating about whether or not to run the Satellite Run for… Continue

Christmas Magic at the Jingle Bell 5K

I know you are all wondering - did she do it? Did the trash talk come to pass or did she walk the walk of shame (said with a wink and a smile). Well those of you on Twitter and Facebook already know what happened. I PR'ed it with a vengeance - official time 42:21 which is one minute and 23 seconds off of…

Live Like You Were Dyin - Trash Talk

I sign off on my blog God bless, be well and Live like you were dyin'. I decided it's time to reflect on that tag line. What does it mean to Live Like you were dyin'. Did you see the movie The Bucket List - that's live like you were dyin. In truth we have all been given a terminal diagnosis. What we do between birth and death is what matters. When I was 'given' the diagnosis of post polio syndrome in December 2006 I had a choice as we all do when we are given a…

It's Not Where You Start It's Where You Finish

It's not where you start, it's where you finish

It's not how you go, it's how you land

A hundred to one shot, you call him a clutz

Can out run the favorite, all he needs is the guts

Your final return will not diminish

And you can be the cream of the crop

It's not where you start, it's where you finish

And you're gonna finish on top

If you start at the top, you're certain to drop

You've got to watch your timing,… Continue

THE SEARCH FOR NEW NORMAL

The goal now is not necessarily to regain control, but to find the new normal in the madness, despite that madness, a way to be content with the changes that were forced upon me and mine. I have no idea to what degree running, marathons or otherwise, will fit into the new scheme. I only know I will not stop running altogether....READ MORE AT MY BLOG

Gonna Fly Now

"You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!" -Rocky

While I am not a proponent of two men beating on each other as though they were slabs of meat, I do find that boxing and running provide wonderful metaphors for life. We have all had our fair share of being kicked and beaten - some… Continue

The Greatest Love of All

Before I went on a 5 mile run this morning I read a post from Gail Martin who writes Gail Martin's Marathon Tips:

" There's a difference between having expectations to achieve, and setting realistic goals. Some days won't provide the right circumstances to reach certain goals--accept it, and try again. Disappointment accompanies unmet expectations--stealing the joy from what we love to do. It's always a process, but if you want to lessen the lows, let go of your… Continue

Dancing Through Life

I cannot believe it has been four years since I was diagnosed with post polio syndrome! When I was first diagnosed I would listen to the soundtrack from Wicked on my CD player. I now have it downloaded into my iPod and am now the proud owner of an iPhone. I've never been a gadget girl but I must admit, I am enjoying these gadgets. They're fun and so is life. Yes, my life is fun - the girl who was tormented and taunted and teased and abused and all the rest! I will be 57… Continue

Why It's Called a Personal Best

Yesterday, my dear friend and cyberspace soul sister, Joan Adams posted on Facebook, Motivational Monday - what gets you motivated. I pondered that question and realized that I am so incredibly blessed to be running again. What motivated me to pick myself up after a relapse of post polio and a surge of cervical… Continue

The Music and the Mirror

The calendar says October 26th which means there should be a chill in the air. When I opened the door to check the temperature to see what to don for my training run, it was warm. I forgot all about the ten degree rule (dressing for a run based on ten degrees warmer than what it feels like) and donned my black capris, my Lexs Run… Continue

So Begins the Journey of a Marathoner's Wife

My husband received the email from Childrens Hospital that he is a member of the Miles for Miracles Team running the 2011 Boston Marathon to raise money for Boston Childrens Hospital. Astonishing - Every Finish Line is a Starting Line

Astonishing from Little Women

I thought home was all I'd ever want

My attic all I'd ever need.

Now nothing feels the way it was before

And I don't know how to proceed.

I only know I'm meant for something more

I've got to know if I can… Continue
