After staying up past midnight last night, Patti and I decided to wake up before 0600 and go for a long walk. We hit the road a 0615 carrying a Power Gel and bottle of water each. I ran some for the first few miles but came back and walked with Patti from about mile 2 on.
Let me just remind you that Patti is a fast walker. We were trucking right along and talking about everything I could think of. I know she probably wished I would talk less, but I am a chatter box when you run with…

Yesterday my husband, daughter and I ran the Corrib Pub Run 5K. It was 81 degrees with the noon sun smiling on over 2000 runners. All proceeds go to benefit Boston neighborhoods. The mood was festive and I felt a sense of triumph returning to the first road race I had ever run. My daughter decided she was gonna take off and run her own race - how apropros for our almost 22 year old daughter who is finding her way in the world. My husband said he would stay with me but he wanted me to push…

so after my 2 free trial visits i am sad to say i will not be joining the Y. this morning i got up with the intention of swimming. unfortunately, so had many others. they were asking people to share lanes. now i am no pro swimmer or anything, but how the heck do you share lanes? someone is getting kicked in the head. no thanks. so i wind up doing the stationary bike and the treadmill. gee, if only there was a place more convenient where i could use this same equipment AND not pay a monthly…

went to the gym this morning and ran on their treadmill. 1st, i dont like their treadmills, they are very noisy and you have to crank up the speed 1/10 at a time unlike mine at home, so i think i will not be using their treadmill there anymore, just mine.
but 2nd, and here is the what the? part, i couldnt do week 2! maybe it was just a bad morning, i dont know, i dont know how a treadmill could be THAT different. after the 1st 90 seconds i was gasping for breath and i never fully…

Once you see the movie lineup for this year, you’ll think that maybe Hollywood producers are running out of ideas for the big screen.
Theaters will be filled with remakes of movies from twenty to thirty years ago such as Fame, Star Trek, Footloose, and The Taking of Pelham 123. If you are lucky to have been alive during those eras, it will be a good day for you at the box office.
However, if you’re one of those who only knew about those movies through Google or through…

The procrastination to begin a serious training program for a marathon in Feb 2010 finally came to an end this morning. I will have to say if felt really good to get out and run again, after several years of doing what I like to refer to as “resting”. In reality, my “resting” was just my sad attempt at justifying pure laziness. At any rate, those days are behind me now, and its time to get motivated.
First run was nothing special. Just a nice easy 3-miler along the Nueces River here…

Time to say goodbye to my '09 Brooks Beasts, finally. They have served me and the 12 in 12 challenge admirably, at Carlsbad, Austin, Napa Valley, Salt Lake City, Big Sur and Rock and Roll San Diego. I think they need a rest.
The big question now is...do I get new shoes...or not?

I cannot believe it! I am sick again. How can someone work out for the better part of two years become so sick and not completely get better? Another trip to the doc on Tuesday to get another steroid shot, more steroids and an anti-biotic! I AM NOT A SICK PERSON - never have been. I have given up almost all physical activity trying to get better ... what more can I do?! Thanks for letting me vent and can't wait to get past this and be able to run, work out and do more distance biking. I'm also…

This will be my first 10k race and it will be a tough one. It has some pretty darn good hills to conquer, especially the very first one which is known as Hospital Hill. I feel ready and hope to do well. Start out easy and finish strong!! They have an awesome goody bag and great finishers medals too!! And the best part are the pancakes that follow!! That is incentive enough!! I'm excited and can't wait to do this.

The big challenge on this course is the climb up the 168 freeway, closed off for us 22,000 runners. It's about a two mile climb, twice as long as Big Sur's trek up to Hurricane Point. Perhaps I should have geared down to 2:1's here, as I did at Big Sur, but I didn't. It may have been my one mistake this time around. At the start of the climb I was setting a PR pace. By the time I crested the peak, I had lost it. Not to worry, I told myself.
