Couch to 5k is a great way to start running. A few member of my family successfully completed the program and ran well at their first 5k. As for longer runs I cut my teeth on Hal Higdon's plans.

For my first marathon I followed the very simple plan in this book: The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer 16 Weeks. Four days a week. No speed work. No hills. Got me a 3:29 finish!

Love distance running, especially marathons. I've run several marathons all over the country from Richmond to Baltimore to San Francisco to Honolulu. Need that annual goal to keep me motivated.
