Thanks Mike. There were some pretty significant hills in the course & with almost 8000 finishers (they said 9000 started) & a very narrow roadway in several spots, the 55:05 isn't a pr. i think my 10k pr is around 51:30 (flat course & small number of racers).

Excellent on the Galloway loooooong run! I think that 29er did more to set my attitude than anything else. After that my attitude was that a marathon is ONLY 26.2... Good luck with the race & we'll look forward to hearing how it goes.

Sounds like it all came together Jim. I hope that was a PR. I am gearing up for the Flying Pig May 2. I did my last Galloway long one Friday of 29 miles and all went well. I hope I have the same weather you had yesterday.

I did the Scotland Run 10k through Central Park in New York City yesterday. Low 50s, cloudless sky, very light winds...absolutely perfect weather! I finished in 55:05 (3648/7790 overall). A great time indeed!

the official time on my run was 4:32:01. it was a real rush running into the olympic stadium. they had a jumbotron screen there & as you were running towards the finish line you looked up & there you were, larger than life, for everyone in the stadium to see. don't know if they had "official" still photographers at the finish line or not. i hope so 'cause that's one i'll buy for sure. it was definitely one of those bucket list moments...

i'm back in the states at lax (los angeles int'l airport for the non-travelers) waiting on my flight back to detroit. what a great trip. thanks again to everyone for all your support & encouragement!

Great race Jim!! You finished feeling strong, uninjured and best of all you helped someone achieve a tremendous goal. Yes,I suspect you are correct that you will remember this marathon more often then your PR marathon.

just got back. unofficial time is around 4:30. i could have taken 10-15 off that but the guy (i met him in the staging area before the race)i was running with, an army lt. colonel running his first marathon started to hit the wall around 23 miles. i told him i wouldn't run off & leave him & we were gonna finish together. we did. we ran into the olympic stadium & his wife & kids & buddies were there cheering him on. he introduced me to his wife & told her what happened to him & that he didn't know if he'd have finished if it wasn't for me. that made it all worthwhile. sometimes there's more to racin' than just the time you post up...

I can not wait for the report Jim. It sounds surreal to me. By shear coincidence I did my 12X1 mile repeats this morning at our local track and about 30-40 army guys and 1 gal were doing laps and their test run for physical training. I was really impressed with these soldiers, all top notch. They tolerated me, the sole civilian, as I ran along side them. The best part for me was my pace was faster than it has been for some time and I had not trouble keeping pace with these folks probably 25 to 30 years my junior!
