Just Finish!

Question of the Week #31
Sponsored by: Road ID

The winners (2) of this week's contest will each win a $35 gift Card from Road ID. Just answer the question (before January 20) and you'll be entered to win!

Road ID's mission is two fold: One, to educate outdoor enthusiasts (runners, cyclists, triathletes, skiers, snow boarders, kayakers, walkers, and anyone that doesn’t spend all of their time on the couch) about the importance of wearing ID. Two, to provide these athletes with innovative identification products that they will want to include as part of their gear.

*Thank you to Dirt Dawg for posting this video asking the same question.

I'm trying to get up the nerve, guts, and stamina to run a 10K. I ran my first road race a little under 2 years ago and I did "just finish." I have ran several 5Ks and although I never win I always prove to myself that: (1.) I don't die and (2.) I don't come in last. But can I make it through a 10K? Now that I've taken the step to post this I'll probably have to try, huh?

To be inspired, visit my page and/or www.newworldgreetings.com/marathon. I went from polio shoes to the finish line of the Boston Marathon in a year!

you can do it, but you must believe in yourself!!

2010 holds two of my largest running goals. First is to train and run my very first Marathon in Michigan. I plan it to be the Martian Marathon on April 10th in Dearborn. My second goal is to run at least 1,000 miles throughout the year.

In 2009, I finished 2 Half-Marathons, several 10K, 5K, and 5 mile events. I also ran a total of 500.3 miles...thanks to the 9-mile run on New Year's Eve.

So to some, my goals might be a bit lofty. However, my goals are mine and I see success. As long as I stay healthy and injury free, I can accomplish these goals and much more.

Cheers!
Tim

My comment here is not only MY "Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal" but my friend's, Monica Scholz, that I would like to share with everyone. In 2010, Monica will break her own record (which currently stands at 23) by running 30+ 100-mile races...IN ONE YEAR!! Details of this amazing feat is on my blog: www.monumentaleffort.com.

This has inspired me to attempt and complete 2, maybe even 3 X 100-milers this year!

Gotta run,
Vince

Two half-marathons. The Dexter/Ann Arbor and the Detroit Free Press. Ran my first (Detroit Freep) this year. I'd like to finish a little faster and with a little more energy at the end.

Just one big hairy audacious goal? The 2010 calendar is very ambitious, so far the calendar includes a few marathons, a few 50k's, the big 6 Gap century ride in North Georgia and several triathlons including Ironman Florida in November. I'm hoping to do the USAT Age Group National Championships again this year. That happens on a Saturday, 6 Gap is the next day. That will be one crazy weekend. The final challenge on my calendar is the Lookout Mountain 100k. The plan is to make 2010 the best year of my life and when I accomplish everything I've listed there is no doubt 2010 will be the best year of my life, but then what will I do in 2011?

Mine is to go sub 2 hour for a half marathon. It is a necessary step on my R-BHAG (really-BHAG) for next year of qualifying for Boston. 2 hours age-grades to a 1:41:28 for you kids.
