Question of the week #12
Sponsored by: 7 Weeks to 100 Push-Ups

Steve Speirs, the author of "7 Weeks to 100 Push-Ups," is giving away two copies of his upcoming book ($14.95 value). Just answer the question (before June 5) and you'll be entered to win! The winner will be encouraged to upload a video of themselves doing their push ups.

Ok, stop what you're doing, drop to the ground and see how many push-ups you can do right now!

It's the world's most recognizable, straight-forward exercise, but most people don't know it's actually a hardcore full-body workout. 7 Weeks to 100 Push-Ups is the ultimate program to train the body to go from just one push-up to 100 consecutive reps in under two months-sculpting muscles in the chest, abs, back, glutes and arms without a single piece of unwieldy equipment.

The book starts with detailed instructions on how to perform a proper push-up and how to maximize its benefit, breaking down the strength-building effects muscle by muscle. In addition there are day-by-day and week-by-week exercise plans that outline how to work up to 100 push-ups safely and effectively.

The program continues with push-up variations, alternating hand position and stance to effectively target specific muscles rarely developed by the average person. The book also prepares readers for strength training with specific diet and nutrition plans and additional aerobic work.

I just did 17 and it wasn't great form. I've gotten away from upper body training. Ugh. Help!

Should I admit that I'm in the single digits?

You've got to start somewhere!

I did 50....modified version. Might have been able to do a few more, but I wanted to keep my form.

I do 100 a day but it took me a good week to build up to this. I also can only do 20 at a time and sometimes only 10-15. I get the 100 done though.I willnever do 100 at a time. Does it really matter?

OK, I just dropped and did 70 "good form" push ups. (I could have squeezed out a few more, but you wouldn't recognize them as push ups - just head bobbing!)

I went through this program a few months ago. I got through all six weeks and could do all of the sets, but I never did get to the point where I could "drop and do 100."

I will often do a "push/run" - do x # of push ups every mile I run. For example, this weekend I did a 10 mile run with 40 push ups every mile. That equates to a total of 400 push ups in addition to the 10 miles! I give myself a generous rest period at every mile before and after the push ups. The push ups give me a break from the running and the running give me a break from the push ups. And, of course, the break is a break!

Glen, I love that "push/run" idea and might give it a try today. Thanks!
